RSS FeedJune 16, 2010Who Do You Follow? No I'm not talking about twittler and blog followers, nor am I talking about Facebook Friends. I'm talking about who do you follow? Who do you listen to? Who do you defend? Who do you advocate for? Consider these questions:
Who do you believe? When you hear a speaker, teacher, author, politician, friend, neighbor, parent or preacher who do you believe?
What attributes does the person have? Passion? A clear message? Inspirational energy? Authenticity? Integrity? A nice smile? Soulful eyes?
Do you know why you believe them? What it is they do that inspires or moves you?
The first key to bringing your leader forward is to be aware of what it is that moves you. When you can clearly state what it is, how it inpires you and why it moves you the first big step to being the leader you are here to be has been taken.
Sure, you don't believe it's that simple right. Well, it is that simple. It's not easy because most of us are so conditioned to respond automatically based on how we have always responded that becoming keenly aware is quite a challenge.
Often, when I ask clients "What do you want your reputation as a leader to be?" the response ranges from a blank stare, to "I don't know" or something as unmeasurable and intangible as "I want to inspire others." Each response is a beginning to the discovery of what it really means for you to be a leader of your life, of a team, of an organization.
Take a few minutes to sit with the question: "What do I want my reputation as a leader to be?" And try this practice after you ask the question. Don't listen to the dialog in your head, check in with your heart and see if you can hear what it has to give you. Posted by Nancy Ballinger at 2:58 pm Add Comment (0 comments) |
